Offivelle vs Hermes Agent
Hermes Agent (Nous Research): an open-source agent with a desktop app, hundreds of models and a small, curated memory.
Pick Hermes Agent if…
- you want the widest choice of models;
- you need Windows or Linux today;
- you want to chat with it from Signal, Discord or WhatsApp.
Pick Offivelle if…
- you want a whole team with roles, not one agent;
- you want memory without a size cap: a folder of notes that grows with your company;
- you want to watch the work happen and approve each risky step yourself.
| Question | Offivelle | Hermes Agent |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free app. Agents use your own ChatGPT plan (through Codex) or Claude plan (through Claude Code, which draws on your plan’s monthly agent credit, then extra usage), or free models on your Mac. Offivelle sells no AI credits. | Free software; Nous Research also sells hosted plans.1, 2 |
| Where you can get it | Every country. The app speaks 11 languages, and agents answer in yours. | Anywhere. |
| Where it runs | Your Mac (macOS 13 or later). Chat and approvals from your phone through Telegram, or the phone app on your Wi-Fi or Tailscale. Your own Linux server with Docker. Windows is coming. | Your computer, Docker or a server over SSH. Desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux; talks through Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp and Signal.1, 3 |
| Which AI does the work | Your choice: ChatGPT (through OpenAI’s Codex), Claude (through Anthropic’s Claude Code) or free local models through Ollama. Pick several and they back each other up. | 300+ models, plus local ones through Ollama and llama.cpp. ChatGPT sign-in works; Claude only through paid extra usage.1, 4 |
| One agent or a team | A team: a CEO who plans the work and hires from 46 roles in 13 departments. Several people can share a company, with roles from viewer to admin. | One agent that can start subagents; the Business plan shares credits across a team.1, 2 |
| Approvals | Emails, publishing and spending wait for your OK, on the Mac or by Telegram. “Always allow” rules for what you trust, a daily budget, and one tap pauses everyone. | Dangerous commands need approval; the default “smart” mode lets an AI approve low-risk ones.5 |
| Your data and training | Stays on your Mac. Prompts go only to the AI you chose (nowhere, with a local model). Offivelle doesn’t train on it or show ads; anonymous usage counts only if you say yes. | Stays where you run it; prompts go to the model provider you pick.1 |
| Memory you can see and edit | Yes: plain Markdown notes in a folder you own (an Obsidian vault, kept with git). Read, edit, move or delete them. | Yes: MEMORY.md (about 2,200 characters) and USER.md (about 1,375), files you can edit.6 |
| Works with your computer off | While your Mac is on, or around the clock on your own server. | While your computer or server is on. |
| Its face | A 3D office of people whose looks you choose; bring your own 3D characters. | Not published |
| Open source | Yes: the code is published under AGPL-3.0 at launch. | Yes: MIT, about 250k GitHub stars (Oct 8, 2026).1 |
Moving from Hermes Agent
- Open Offivelle → Settings → Bring your Muse or OpenClaw. It finds Hermes on this Mac by itself.
- Tick what comes over: SOUL.md becomes your CEO’s personality, USER.md goes into your company brief, and MEMORY.md becomes notes in your memory folder.
- Hermes keeps keys next to its memory (.env, auth.json, vault.key): Offivelle never opens them.
